This land is both generous and demanding, requiring deep respect, technical expertise, and meticulous care to fully unlock its potential.

At DeMatei, each vineyard parcel is carefully cultivated to produce wines of remarkable structure, balance, and exceptional aging potential—a hallmark consistently reflected across every vintage.

Caii de la Letea- The Wild Horses of Letea Forest

Caii de la Letea – The Wild Horses of Letea Forest represents wines from Dobrogea’s oldest vineyard, near Sarica–Niculițel, Romania in a region with over 3,000 years of winemaking history. Traditional viticulture is paired with modern winemaking led by internationally acclaimed oenologists, resulting in wines with a clear sense of place and strong international appeal.

The brand is inspired by The Wild Horses of Letea Forest, located in the Danube Delta—Europe’s largest colony of free-roaming horses and a powerful symbol of freedom and resilience. This spirit is reflected in wines with a bold, authentic identity, rooted in Dobrogea’s preserved natural landscape.

The Danube Delta is one of Europe largest natural wetlands and reed beds, a UNESCO-recognized biosphere and the continent’s most important natural water-purification system. Home to extraordinary biodiversity, including over 300 bird species, the Delta is also shaped by a rich cultural mosaic-where viticulture has been practiced for generations alongside fishing and traditional agriculture.

Domeniile Averesti

AVERESTI ESTATES, located in eastern Romania, is one of the country’s best-kept wine secrets. Remote and off the beaten path, this hidden gem invites visitors into a landscape defined by tranquility, natural beauty, and a deep connection to local life. The estate’s serene atmosphere, shaped by centuries of history, folklore, and tradition, offers a place to slow down, discover romance, and experience the authentic spirit of the region.

Set within the historic Huși Vineyard, on the Moldavian Plateau, Averești has been home to vine cultivation since the dawn of civilization. Its viticultural heritage traces back more than 4,000 years, with grape seed imprints discovered in Cucuteni–Trypillian ceramics, long before its first documented mention in 1415.

Two centuries after early historical references to the area’s wines, Ștefan Negruzzi, together with renowned French winemaker René Faure, established Averești Estates by blending Romanian ingenuity with French expertise. Their vision led to Averești being recognized in 1900 as the most modern vineyard in Romania, standing alongside leading French estates of the era.

A new chapter began in 2010, when a passionate family took stewardship of the estate, honoring its legacy while investing in modern vinification facilities alongside the historic cellars. Today, Averești Estates is a place where history, innovation, and exceptional wines come together—an authentic sanctuary for both wine lovers and the land itself.

Budureasca

In the heart of Dealu Mare, in an area with rolling hills, caressed by the sun, we find Budureasca vineyards- an ancient place, with deep roots in the history of wine culture.

The archeological evidence found nearby suggests that this place has had a particularly rich tradition in winemaking since Dacian times.

Nowadays, the wines from these vineyards are well known and appreciated for their unique quality, but also for being able to adapt to the Modern World. These things wouldn’t be possible without the endeavors and the passion of the people who craft them.

Olterra

Paolo Mennini first arrived in Romania as a visitor, never imagining that his journey would lead to a new home. Having explored much of the world and grown up among the legendary landscapes of Tuscany, he believed nothing could rival the beauty and emotional pull of his native land. Yet fate had other plans.

In the rolling hills of Drăgășani, Paolo encountered something unexpected—a place that spoke quietly but profoundly. There was a sense of balance in the land, a harmony in the air, and a depth of character that resonated with him instantly. What began as a visit became a calling. Drăgășani was not just beautiful; it felt inevitable. And so, he stayed. From that moment, a winery shaped by a dream was born. Rooted in Paolo’s vision, it embodied a dialogue between place, intuition, and respect for terroir.

A new chapter unfolded a few years ago when a group of Romanian wine enthusiasts, sharing the same passion and belief in the region’s potential, acquired the winery. Honoring its origins while looking toward the future, they reimagined it as OLTERRA—a name inspired by its home in the Oltenia Region, Romania. The dream did not end; it evolved.

Today, Olterra represents a contemporary expression of Drăgășani wines, deeply connected to place yet unmistakably modern. The winery draws inspiration from local folklore and ancestral forms of expression, reflected in its two emblematic ranges: Luturi -Clays, and Scoarțe-Traditional Carpets. These collections embrace a refined, minimalist aesthetic—stripping everything down to its essence, just as this land has done for millennia.

The labels themselves tell a story, featuring motifs inspired by prehistoric ceramics from Oltenia, symbols of continuity, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty. Simple yet enduring, Olterra’s identity bridges past and present, offering wines that are authentic, expressive, and profoundly rooted in their origin.

Aurelia Visinescu

Aurelia Vișinescu, co-owner and winemaker at Domeniile Săhăteni, commenced her journey in the wine industry three decades ago. She initially entered the field by joining a Romanian wine export company, following the fall of communism. In love with nature and interested in cultivating flowers, Aurelia made the decision to pursue oenology while attending Horticulture University. She was fascinated by wine science.

Today, Aurelia is widely regarded as Romania’s most prominent female oenologist, a pioneer whose expertise, vision, and dedication have shaped some of the country’s most expressive and refined wines. Her work at Domeniile Săhăteni blends tradition with innovation, creating wines that reflect both the unique terroir of the Dealu Mare region and the elegance of her craft.

Over the years, Aurelia’s wines have received numerous prestigious awards and international recognitions, consistently earning medals at leading wine competitions and establishing her reputation as a true ambassador of Romanian wine on the global stage.

“A single glass of wine can reveal more than a story. My winemaking history begins with the love of nature. When you nourish love, passion, and respect for the vineyard, you can bring out the very best in the vines which will be then reflected in the glass.

During the 30 years that have passed since I finished wine school, I have focused my education on chemistry and microbiology with a particular emphasis on taste and smell ––the vital elements for the creation of excellent wines. Over the years, my passion for wine has grown, along with my recurrent dream that I would cultivate my own vineyard one day. That day has arrived, and my dream has become a reality.

At Domeniile Săhăteni, I rely on people who have dedicated their lives to working in the vineyards. Here we make wine for those like us, who skillfully do their job with rigor and passion, people who know their goals. We don’t fabricate a perfect, sweet story without foundation or claim to have the secret knowledge of wine.

Great wine depends on the grace of nature but evolves thanks to the skills and passion of the viticulturists and winemakers. Wine is what we offer you at our best, every year, from our cellar. This is my belief, and it can be found in every bottle of wine I make.”- Aurelia Vișinescu, Domeniile Săhăteni.

Crama Histria

Histria Winery is where a deep passion for wine meets a profound respect for nature.Nestled close to the picturesque shores of the Black Sea, the winery is committed to crafting vegan wines that express purity, balance, and a true sense of place.

At the heart of Histria stands Paul Fulea, a winemaker deeply connected to the rhythms of nature, who approaches each day with intention, patience, and respect for the land. His philosophy centers on minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard and environment to speak freely through the wines.
